This is a vintage Japanese teacup (yunomi) used at a sushi restaurant.
We found it at To-ji Temple’s antique market in Kyoto, a great place to discover interesting and rare antiques.
The cup shows big, hand-painted characters of popular sushi toppings in blue, like:
- 鮪 (tuna)
- 鰻 (eel)鯛
- (sea bream)
- 鯵 (horse mackerel)
Around the top and bottom, the names of these fish are also written in smaller brown letters, repeating in a rhythm that wraps around the cup.
This kind of cup was common in Japanese sushi shops during the Showa era (1926–1989). It was both useful and fun — showing the menu right on the cup! The beige color on the edges adds to its retro look.
This is a great item for lovers of Japanese food culture, vintage design, or sushi-themed decor.
🛍️ This is a one-of-a-kind item — once it’s gone, it’s gone.
